Club History

The Eastern Suburbs Obedience Dog Club started over 30 years ago with its first President and Secretary Mr Geoff Cabena and Mrs Betty Cabena. They nurtured the club through its formative years and also through a number of locations within the area.  Betty is no longer with us, but was a full panel judge with many years experience and a patron of the club. The club was originally formed in Doncaster but then moved into a number of locations in Mitcham before finally settling at Simpson's Reserve in 1996. The club has produced a number of Australian Obedience Champions as well as hundreds of dog obedience titles.

The past President, Brian Arter, has been with the club for most of its existence. He has trained dogs to Australian Obedience Champion level and has been very active in dog obedience issues. The past Treasurer, Andrea Sciberras, has been with the club for over 22 years and has trained dogs to Australian Obedience Champion level.  Andrea was also very active in tracking.

Our current President, Rhonda Cheesman trains her dog for Obedience, Rally and Tracking. She has reached championship level at tracking with her Spaniel, Meka.

Each of the instructors at the club have had a variety of experience with all breeds of dogs.  All are unpaid volunteers who give their time freely to promote the cause of responsible dog ownership.

The Eastern Suburbs Obedience Dog Club is affilated with the VCA   (Victorian Canine Association Inc.)
